What Is a Pool Skimmer And What Does It Do?
Before we go on to our guide, let’s first understand more about the pool skimmer. For those who aren’t familiar with what this contraption is, it’s basically a pool cleaner that takes in water to clean it. It uses skimming action to vacuum in objects like leaves, bugs, twigs, and debris before they reach the pool bottom.
The dirt is then brought into the basket and then the water is circulated back to the pool through a filter pump. Essentially, it takes in water from the pool and brings it back to the pool without the dirt anymore.
How To Install A Thru Wall Skimmer To Intex Pool (Easy-To-Follow Instructions)
Now that we’ve understood how a pool skimmer works, we can now go on to the steps on how to attach skimmer to my Intex pool.
Let’s take a look at some of the steps below:
1. Fill Up The Pool
The first thing you need to do is prep up your pool by filling it first with water of up to 2 feet. This ensures that the liner will be properly stretched into position.
2. Put The Face Plate At The Skimmer Cutout
Now that the pool is in position, you can start assembling the skimmer. You start by putting the face plate and the liner against the cutout on the wall found on the outside of the pool.
The trick here is to make 3 holes at the top and use 2 flathead screws to screw them in place. At the same time, you need to position the skimmer with the screws and tighten them really hard.
3. Make Other Holes
Once you’re done making the first 3 holes, go on to the inside of the pool. On the other side of the gasket, you need to make other holes as well with a blunt object. Create holes in the liner and put flathead screws on all of the holes. You’ll then need to tighten the screws.
4. Cut Off The Excess Liner
Lastly, you’ll want to cut off some of the excess liner from the gasket in the inside of the pool to make sure everything’s neat. You can use the gasket to guide you around the edges so that you can have a clean cut.
5. Attach a Vacuum Line
One thing that you can do to increase the efficiency of your skimmer, although not fully required, is to attach a vacuum line to it. Doing this, you can take some of the suction off the skimmer. The skimmer can work with the vacuum to suck in water faster and filter out the dirt quicker as well. This step though, requires knowledge on plumbing.
Conclusion
What we taught you above are the simple steps on how to install a thru wall skimmer on Intex pool. Now, the first 4 steps are the ones to take if you want to attach a simple wall skimmer.
But if you want to make your pool have an even better water filtration system, then you can add step 5 to the equation. In any case, this whole process is not that hard to do. With the help of this guide and the manual that comes with your pool skimmer, you’ll be able to get this job done in no time.
Of course, the plumbing of the vacuum line will take a little bit more time and effort to get done but it’ll be worth it. In any case, bring out this guide the next time you install an above ground Intex pool and want to install a good thru wall skimmer in it.
